Admission Arrangements
Parents and children are most welcome to visit and see our school. Visits are often most informative during the school day, when you can see our children learning. Please call the office to book an appointment.
Children are admitted into Foundation in one intake in September. In the summer term prior to your child starting school, we will arrange taster sessions and you and your child can meet the teachers, teaching assistants and office staff.
We are a church school however our school is for all families in our community. We fully include children with a diverse range of faiths and children with no faith. Our worship times are invitational and inclusive for all.
A copy of our Admissions Policy can be found here.
Applications are made through Derby City Council. (https://www.derby.gov.uk/education-and-learning/schools-and-colleges/school-admissions/primary-school-admissions/)

Consultation on St Werburgh’s CE Primary School Admission Arrangements for September 2025
Following the publication of the new School Admissions Code 2021 , the governing body of St Werburgh’s CE Primary School are currently consulting on the school admissions policy for September 2025. The admissions policy has been adapted to ensure we are fully compliant with the new School Admissions Code (2021). There have been changes to the school’s oversubscription criteria and the following has been removed at the request of the Derby Diocese Board of Education:
- Children whose parents are regular worshippers at St Werburgh’s Parish Church, Spondon, Derby and who can support their application with a letter of confirmation from the Parish Priest or Children whose parents are regular worshippers at Spondon Methodist Church, Spondon, Derby and can support their application with a letter of confirmation from the ordained Methodist Minister.
- Children whose parents are regular worshippers at another Anglican Parish Church and who can support their application with a letter of confirmation from the Parish Priest.
The consultation period commenced on 2nd October and will run until 24th November 2023. During this time, individuals and organisations are invited to express their views and any concerns about the proposed admissions policy for St Werburgh’s CE Primary School.
In addition, the policy has also been updated and refers to the Admissions Appeal Code 2022 rather than the Admissions Appeal Code 2012, as per previous policies.
The proposed Admissions Policy for the 2025/26 academic year is available to download here:
